(Aug. 14, 2009) A worker was burned when he received an electric shock last Thursday while working on the electrical system of an Ocean City condominium.
According to the Ocean City Police Department, the maintenance worker was working on an electrical panel on the 10th floor of the Capri condominium at 11000 Coastal Highway at 2 p.m. when he was shocked.
The accident caused an arc of electricity that filled the interior hallways of the 10th and 11th floors with smoke, police said. There was no fire but the affected area of the high-rise building was evacuated due to the smoke, Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company spokesman Steve Price said.
Once the building was ventilated the occupants were allowed to return. The Ocean City Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the accident.
The maintenance worker was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with burns to his hands and arms. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
